Event Description

Saturday - June 20, 2009
5:00PM - Dancin' on the Avenue Willow Glen 2009
Dancin' on the Avenue in Willow Glen is back for the 14th year running! Bust out the dancing shoes, call your friends and neighbors, and come to Downtown Willow Glen's annual street party for fun, folks, food, and music!

We're currently accepting applications for booths for non-profit organizations, participants for our Kids Court, and performers for the Community Stage. To download an application form for any of these, please click on the relevant link above.

We're also looking for event sponsors at all sponsorship levels. Dancin' on the Avenue attracts apx. 35,000 residents and guests every year, and Willow Glen is one of San Jose's oldest and most affluent neighborhoods. The one-day festival, which primarily draws young to middle-aged couples and young families, yields equivalent results of many 2-3 day festivals elsewhere. For sponsorship information, please e-mail Claudette Mannina or phone her at 831-461-1796.

Dancin' on the Avenue is staffed by over 200 volunteers every year, and the bulk of those staff ticket and beverage booths. Please consider volunteering that evening; organizing a group to volunteer at a beverage booth is a wonderful way to promote your organization or business in Willow Glen, and it can be a lot of fun. Each beverage booth (wine, soda, or beer), needs a minimum of 8 people serving 5pm-10pm. For volunteer information, please e-mail Norma Ruiz or phone her at 408-298-2100.

DOTA was very nice! The wife and I left around a little after 7, and there was a steady stream of people still walking up Minnesota to get there. Once the bands finally got going it was really good! The mood was still good while I was there, so fingers are crossed that no knuckleheads messed up stuff yesterday. Security/Police presence was good too. I took some photos, if I have any share worthy, I'll post them here or in my profile. Sorry I missed you if you were there. I walked the ave a good 5-7 times, so you probably saw a big black dude with a camera. Say hello next time :)

My soon-to-be hubby and I will definitely be making an appearance, just not sure on time since we are heading over after a graduation party. Can't wait...this is one of the events that helped us make the decision to move to WG!

Well, I plan on sticking with the types who frequent street fairs for the good time because that's what fairs and festivals are about. However, I also plan on sticking with those that do care about the neighborhood because that should be something we do whether we are at a festival or just driving through.

I love Ryan's idea and I hope to meet up with those of you that are as I mentioned above. And 8:00 is when my Hubby and I are scheduled to help out on the community stage so that is perfect. Thanks, Ryan for always organizing the troops!

As with most events anywhere, if you show up early and leave early you can avoid those that may have different motives than you. The music and food are still good and the vendors can still use your support. With all of the recent closures, I think our Avenue can use some "outside" support as well. Thanks to Ryan for suggesting a time and a place for those who want to "hob nob with our neighbors" ;-) We're looking forward to a good time and perhaps even a little dancin'.

I'm with Will on this one - DotA is pain anymore. Used to be a good time, but now it's too crowded. I stay away.

I'd love to meet any Willow Glen 2.0'ers who will be at DOTA this weekend. Does anyone want to suggest a meetup place and time? I've got two little kids, so we'll likely go early and head home around 8ish.

How about 6pm in front of Hicklebees? We'll have a beer and catch some of the music on the south stage.
