Willow Glen 2.0

Willow Glen Extra is reporting that Fresh & Easy is laying off the gas...again.

It seems like forever ago that everyone was in a tizzy about what would go into the old Albertson's space at the corner of Minnesota and Bird. Was it going to be Zanotto's? Trader Joe's? When the announcement finally came that the space was going to British Tesco owned Fresh & Easy, the news was greeted with scepticism and meh's.

Fresh & Easy was going to bring quick, convenient, fresh food to our little corner of Willow Glen. But so far, all they've brought is roofing contractors. Not bad news is you happen to be a roofing contractor, but what about the small businesses in the center who rely on the anchor tenant for their foot traffic? Does anyone know how these delays are impacting them? Just from my driveby's, the center looks like a ghost town. I guess the upside is that there's always plenty of parking.

If you know how this is impacting the local businesses, or if you ARE one of those local businesses, let us know what issues these delays are causing.

In addition to throwing away its money to an out-of-WG landlord, Fresh & Easy is also throwing away internet advertising dollars.

As of November 20, WGx’s Google Adsense is serving ads for Fresh & Easy on this post.

Too bad you can’t use the $6 coupon that you get when you click through … unless you are reading this story from your computer in Southern California.

If you live in WG, the Google ad and the coupon are probably useless. But feel free to click through anyway, and inject a tiny little bit of that Tesco money into the Willow Glen neighborhood after all.

Thanks! ;-)

I am a long time customer at Pro Darling Nails, which is next door to Fresh and Easy. They have been dramatically impacted by the construction. Their roof is now leaking, they keep knocking Pro Darling Nail's sign down, their front door does not fit in the frame properly anymore. They have been made great promises if they will just hang on. I sincerely hope that the owners follow through on their promises!

I am sure it has made it difficult on them, on another note I was told Zanotto's is interested in the grocery store site on Foxworthy and Cherry, the lease is up at the end of the year. (My fingers and toes are crossed for this to be true)
