Willow Glen 2.0

There's a great post on the Outside.in Blog today about how to be a great local blogger. Outside.in is the site where I get the news that we run on the front page of Willow Glen 2.0. I want to encourage everyone on Willow Glen 2.0 to be a great local blogger. It's not as hard as you might think.

There are a few great resources for our community to share news and ideas about what's going on locally. Willow Glen Extra is my favorite local blog and is usually first to run with most of the really local things going on. The eList is my first choice for getting information as it happens (I only wish the conversations would be stored and searchable--like the conversations here are--so we didn't have to talk about AT&T's poor cell coverage every 5 weeks and constantly rehash the same conversations. But regardless, it's still the best place to find out what your neighbors are talking about right now). If you aren't subscribed to the eList, and I highly recommend that you should be, just send an email to admin@wgna.net to sign up.

I've mentioned before that if we all look to someone else to create the great content for Willow Glen, we're going to be fairly dissapointed. One of the things that I love about Willow Glen 2.0 is that everyone gets a chance to contribute and that's what makes it valuable for everyone else. The more people contribute, the more valuable it becomes for our entire neighborhood. The viewpoints on WG2.0 are from all of us and are discussed by all of us. It's our neighborhood, so let's talk about it.

I think that the most powerful opportunity we have is if a group of us blog about local issues even just occasionally occasionally. I'm not suggesting we all become full time local bloggers, but if the muse strikes you once a month to write about traffic calming, or tree removal, or Fresh and Easy, or the CBID, or a restaurant you like or write about it! Imagine if just 1/3 of us updated 1 time per month. That would be about 3 or 4 new blog posts, and therefore new discussions, about Willow Glen every day. The value to Willow Glen would be huge.

So when you've got a thought about what's going on in our little burgh, blog about it. Start the discussion with your neighbors. Let's be the news and the discussion for Willow Glen.
