I just met Kevin Swanson, President of the WGBA and producer of Willow Glen In Motion. It's a fun show they produce bi-weekly about life here in lovely little Willow Glen. Here's an interview Kevin did with Kathy Adkins, former owner of Willow Glen Books. I'd love to get your thoughts on the series and what you think of the show and the interview. Leave your thoughts in the comments and discuss!

Someone on the elist today noticed darkness at Casa Casa. A few minutes ago, Norma Ruiz, executive director of the Willow Glen Business Association confirmed that they had indeed gone out of business. Casa Casa was a great little shop and we used to frequently stop in for gifts for friends. They'll be missed on Lincoln Avenue.
But this is a good reminder what happens when we stop supporting our local businesses. It's a tough time for everyone, but especially small business owners. Next time you… Continue

Ok, hopefully by now you have heard of Nia. I heard of it almost a year ago. After I tried it, I decided that I wanted to share it with everyone because it made me feel so happy.
I talk about it on my site and I blogged about it on my blog, but then I realized I haven't really told the people in the area that I am teaching in what it is.
So let me talk to you a bit about Nia. When I found it, I was looking for a different form of exercise that I could teach, but that would be somewhat "dancey"… Continue

Walking down Lincoln shortly before 9am this morning, I met a cop who was finishing clearing an accident. Apparently someone had rammed into two of the concrete pylons on the curb at the corner of Lincoln and Brace between the Longs and the La Villa Parking lot. The pylons were sheared off and the car was totalled. Here's a quick video I grabbed with my iPhone on my way back about an hour later.

UPDATE: Fritz was found last night by a neighbor on Fairview. Our most awesome neighbor Glen saw them walking last night and called me this morning. I went to the house on Fairview and we've got Fritz back now. Thanks everyone for being vigilant for us.
We're keeping my mother-in-law's mini-schnauzer while she recovers from a stroke and tonight when we put him out, he slipped out of the gate. He's a black mini-schnauzer named Fritz. He's about knee high, black/dark grey with light gray tips on… Continue

This is what I've been talking about on WG2.0 lately. As you can see, the Toys for Tots drive was a pretty popular topic for me in December. I made this using Wordle. Wordle takes a feed from the web (like your WG2.0 blog) and turns it into a word… Continue

Wow! Our Willow Glen neighbors are awesome! We had the Marines come by WG2.0 World Headquarters yesterday to pick up two full boxes of toys. When I left last night though, I forgot to bring in the boxes. Tonight when I went back over to put them away, we had two more full boxes of toys, plus another bag that wouldn't fit in the overflowing boxes. We collected puzzles, books, Legos, Barbies, a TON of stuffed animals, a Cabbage Patch Kid, lots of games, uncountable race cars, and a plethora… Continue

Our Toys For Tots drive had a bit of a scare this weekend. When I arrived at Willow Glen 2.0 World Headquarters in the Garden Theater on Monday, I went to check on our two collection boxes. The box at the rear of the building by the parking lot had a few toys in it from the weekend, but the box in the front of the building had gone missing! What kind of grinch steals a Toys for Tots box?! I made some calls to Sara to see if she had taken it. Nope. I called building management to see if someone m… Continue

Hi everyone,
Becky Williamson, here, with lifeSport Fitness. I was born and raised in Willow Glen, and I've been helping Bay Area residents get fit and stay fit for about 23 years. I thought I'd give you a Thanksgiving holiday workout idea to help you work off some of your Thanksgiving feast. As I type this, it's raining outside, but I think we're in for better weather the rest of the week ;-).
I really enjoy getting away from a traditional gym workout on occasion and exercising outdoors. We'v… Continue
Willow Glen Extra is reporting that Fresh & Easy is laying off the gas...again.
It seems like forever ago that everyone was in a tizzy about what would go into the old Albertson's space at the corner of Minnesota and Bird. Was it going to be Zanotto's? Trader Joe's? When the announcement finally came that the space was going to British Tesco owned Fresh & Easy, the news was greeted with scepticism and… Continue

In February this year, as part of the economic stimulus bill that was introduced into law, the loan limits for government-backed mortgages were increased in high-cost housing areas of the country. This has had a huge impact in the Bay Area where house prices are the highest in the country. The new bill has allowed borrowers to benefit from lower interest rates from loans backed by financing companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the FHA. The maximum for conforming loans was temporarily increa… Continue

Willow Glen 2.0 has become a great vibrant community of neighbors sharing all kinds of information with each other. I love that we've been able to build up this local resource from nothing to where it is today. But I think that there's a lot more we can offer that can help bring Willow Glen together.
For the past few months, we've been working on a top secret project called Neighborsville. Neighborsville will be a place where… Continue

Today is Blog Action Day. One day a year bloggers all spend some time doing some good through their blogs. The issue the blogosphere is tackling is poverty. Janet Fouts, a local blogger and WG2.0 member has a great post up today about ways to get involved. She's donating $5 for each comment left on her post to Second Harvest. Give her a click, learn how to get involved, and help raise some mo… Continue
