Last Saturday night, we were driving down Lincoln in the pouring rain and could not help but notice that the line at Opa! was out the door! People were standing in the rain waiting to place their order for Gyros. Now I love a great gyro as much as the next guy, but what are they putting in the sauce to have people wait outdoors in the POURING rain?

Has anyone tried them? Our friends who we had dinner with said it was all the rage among their circle of friends.

Hey LBD,

my friend and I tried going there the other day for lunch and ... line out the door. I was a little disappointed. They need a bigger restaurant. I'm not the hugest fan of gyros but I too heard it was the rage. Maybe next time.

Casblanca's isn't much to look at but there's no way that Opa beats their Gyro's. Warm and freshly made, I would definitely choose them first.

That said, the Opa menu does have reasonable prices (probably introductory) and the lamb-urger sounds yummy but I too have skipped it as an option for dining so far. I see the lines and I never understand why folks don't just go enjoy a table and a glass of wine at the Grapevine while they're waiting ;-)

I think there is some kind of nature thing that makes people want to be where everyone else is even if it's likely so busy because they only have 10 tables.

I finally ate there when a visiting friend wanted to have Greek salad for lunch. I suggested Opas! but was skeptical due to the previous business failures at this location. I found the Pita sandwich tasty but I didn't love the salad as it's different from what I like about Greek salads. I don't think it had Roma tomatoes or enough olives. The place is too small for the amount of people it attracts and it tests customer's patience. I saw many people leave and almost left myself.

I don't get it with this place either really... I've eaten there and have the Gyro, because I LOVE a good Gyro, but I didn't find anything "Extra Special" about it that I would endure the "wait" there. Yiassoo on Bascom near Pruneyard is way better and there's no line.

If you're looking to not go farther than Lincoln Ave. for a bite then Opa is a "score" for sure. It's good food really, but is it worth the long wait and mediocre service? Not in my book.

If Pizza My Heart, next door, suddenly came out with a Gyro Slice of Pizza, I'd bet money that Opa would suffer greatly.

Its all about the exclamation point.
People would not get too excited telling their friends "I ate at Opa".
But "I ate at Opa!" is an entirely different matter.

We all now have a reason to eat at Opa! wherever we are...they are opening one up in Los Gatos!! Oh and rumor has it they are not cousins from John's Restaurant......if you want a GREAT meal you cannot miss at John's!!! Excellent service...nice atmosphere.....not loud like you're on a bus....just a really pleasant dinning experience ~VF

I finally tried Opa! this week for lunch. We had the sampler as an appetizer and then I had the gyro for lunch. It was plate-licking great! The service is great and except for being a little crowded (which, if you are in the right frame of mind adds to the ambience) it was a perfect experience! The prices are very reasonable and the food is pretty healthy...a little high on the sodium but what would you expect for Medittereanean food? Overall, I recommend highly!

I haven't tried Opa! yet, but I do have to say I am not crazy about them blocking the sidewalk. Half the sidewalk is covered by their tables and on busy nights, the other half is full of people waiting to eat there. These folks often don't even attempt to make room for pedestrians to pass. We walk our dog past there on the way to Gussied Up, and it is an annoyance to try and pass the restaurant. I was excited to try Opa! when they first opened, but now I am not so interested because of how inconsiderate they are to passing pedestrians.

So we finally got around to having lunch at Opa yesterday. It was awesome. We both had the Gyros and they made a cheese pizza for my 4 yr old. There was a short wait, but the hostess/waitress sat us as soon as she could. The fries with Opa sauce were great. The gyro was great. The service was great. Overall experience was great.

My wife, daughter and I had lunch at Opa's yesterday. No line, fast service and a reasonable price. We split a deluxe Greek pizza and and Greek salad, all very good. The service was also great.
