Willow Glen 2.0

As you may know, the San Jose City Council is voting THIS TUESDAY to determine the fate of WIllow Glen's Fire Station Six. Please help to keep the fire station open by signing the blog petition at http://savewillowglenfirestation.blogspot.com and attendoing the City Clouncil meeting.

SAVE THE WILLOW GLEN FIRE STATION

URGENT – PLEASE HELP

The Willow Glen Fire Station (Station 6) located at Cherry and Minnesota is slated for closure. There is a critical vote at the next City Council Meeting on THIS TUESDAY August 5th.

Station 6 provides critical public safety services – fire protection, medical aid, and first responders to 911 calls to your Willow Glen neighborhood.

The closure of Station 6 will result in longer response times to emergency situations for residents of Willow Glen.

Please take action immediately to help save Station 6. There are three things you can do to help:

1. Contact all San Jose City Council people and urge them to vote to keep Station Six open. You can find Council Member contact information at http://www.sanjoseca.gov/council.html

2. Sign the petition at http://savewillowglenfirestation.blogspot.com
Please use your real names and location (ex Sally and Steve Resident, Bird & Minnesota). The signatures will be shared at the City Council meeting.

3. Attend the City Council Meeting:

Tuesday, August 5 at 1:30pm

City Council Chambers

San Jose City Hall,

200 East Santa Clara St

San José, CA 95113

Thank you for your support! I have also attached a flyer in PDF if you'd like to print and distribute.

I am amazed how our fine city raises money through bonds for city hall, community centers and libraries to be paid by the taxpayers but does not have the operating funds to staff and maintain these wonders that they build!

So, do I understand the issue correctly...close Station 6, build another station somewhere else on park land that is also scarce in this city and then sell Station 6 with the proceeds to go back into the general fund?

And yet, I open the Mercury News this morning and there is a proposal on the table to be decided on Tuesday evening for the city of San Jose to put $75 million in cash into brand new schools in North San Jose where new housing projects are going. And yet, just a few years ago, we closed schools in North San Jose.

Creating jobs and neighborhoods is great but what about the ones that are established?

I am very interested in signing the petition...just want to make sure that I understand the issue!

Thanks, Audrey for taking the time to bring this to our attention!

Hi Laura - thanks for your interest.

The issue is that the city is planning to close Station Six, stating that Willow Glen will be covered by a new fire station to be built on Meridian and Curtner. The new station will not be operational for a while (2011 I believe) and Station Six will be sold in the meantime, leaving WG without adequate fire and emergency services protection.

This comes before City Council THIS TUESDAY, and we are trying to get signatures on the petition and/or have residents attend the meeting.

Please go to http://savewillowglenfirestation.blogspot.com/ to sign the petition (hit "comments to sign it) and please attend the meeting if you can.
