Willow Glen 3.0? Ideas and Suggestions Wanted!
Willow Glen 2.0 is a great community site, but I think there are some things we could do to make it even better. We're working right now on a new site that will hopefully serve the needs of our neighborhood even better than this one does. In order to do that, I'd love your feedback. Here's what we're focusing on:
1. Recommendations: I think we can come up with a much better way to get local recommendations from your friends and neighbors than exist on either this site or the eList. What sites do you think do this well and how would you improve them?
2. Local Events: We've just added local events to WG2.0. I think that we've got a lot of room for improvement there. My big question for you is, where do you look to find out information about local events now and what do you like or dislike about what is available?
3. Classifieds: We've all got things to sell and we're all looking for things to buy. We're working on enhancing the ability to find and list items for sale on the next version of Willow Glen 2.0. Where do you look for classifieds now and what do you like/dislike about them?
4. Discussions: This is where I think we have the most room for improvement. In WG, we've got the eList, local blogs like Willow Glen Extra, and the blogs and discussion forums on WG2.0. But what is the best place to start or join a discussion? We're looking to simplify discussions, make them easy to discover, easy to join, and fun to participate in. What's good and bad about the things we have available now? What's your favorite and why?
5. Small Businesses: There aren't many ways for small businesses to create connections with the people in their neighborhood or reach a local neighborhood audience with news of events, sales, or announcements, even though they may have a fiercely loyal local customer base. We'd like to give small businesses the opportunity to do all of this and give local customers the chance to know more about what their favorite local businesses are doing.
6. Weekly Newsletter: Would you be interested in a weekly newsletter with the latest and favoritest (?) new neighbors, recommendations, events, popular discussions, etc as an email every week? We'd pull the content of the newsletter from recent and popular activity happening on WG2.0 and send you a once a week update with whats new and popular.
We're working hard with a small team to get all of these ideas turned into reality. In order to make sure that we're building the right things, I'd love your feedback on what you think about each of these categories and what you like or dislike about WG2.0 and the other local tools we've got, like the eList, Yelp, Yahoo Local, Craigslist, local blogs or any other local sites you use. Are we focusing on the right areas? Are there other functions you think we should be looking at?

Ryan, I would like to reinforce the need for the referrals section. I'm always looking for contractors and don't like to pick them online or out of phone book, would much prefer a reference and pics of their work from someone on this site.
